Lovely hotel, great location.
Upgraded room from classic double to Executive double and I was disappointed. The cleanliness of the bathroom had hairs on floor and litter left by sanitation bin. As I was on a special occasion, Christmas evening with my partner, I didn’t want to draw attention to it. If I was traveling solo, I would have asked to change rooms. Unfortunately I wish I had no upgraded and paid an extra £20.00 at the hotel.

Generous sized ‘small’ room, bright (sunny!) aspect with ample windows.
The building is a fine example of a late Victorian hotel and retains many features of what was once a grand building. The general decor however appears to have been renovated in c2000 and presents as a standard (though good quality) hotel chain fitout which preserves, but ignores, the original features of the building. A more sensitive approach to basic colour selection and attention to historic detail could vastly elevate the presentation and - quite inexpensively - transform it into a landmark of heritage significance and grandeur. A lost opportunity currently, but the bones are there for a future makeover that could be stunning.

Large hotel close to the station and the centre of Chester (10 min walk). Parking close by. Rooms were comfortable.

The history of the hotel.
The room was very poor to say it was advertised as Deluxe not worth the money paid.

The room was a bit basic, tucked away in a far corner of the hotel. A room that is usually used for staff or cheap alternatives.
Broken window, needed a bit of TLC.

Great location.
The hotel is a beautiful old lady that needs a bit of love on the outside but the inside has some stunning features.
Check in was smooth
Room was as expected, but was chilly but was soon rectified.
The outside of the building untidy and needs some TLC
The breakfast, which we only had on one morning, was not worth £16 a head.
Was well cooked but nothing special.
The bed wasn't great, quite hard and lumpy..
Some investment in new mattresses would be great
