It is in a fantastic location and the building is stunning
The windows didn’t open very well or the latches were broken and the room was too hot. Tried to book restaurant but the web page wouldn’t allow. Even with the phone in the room there was no number to ring reception so had to do by mobile to find they don’t use the website bookings anymore.

Breakfast was lovely
Service not up to it's usual standard, as having stayed here a few times. Mum and her partner over from Spain, who hadn't stayed before, had a mix up with their room keys and asked to pay for both rooms, when had already paid. Surprised no bottled water in room.

Revamped decor in the public areas was lovely. Great location with parking at £15 per night. Super comfy bed.
Staff in the restaurant in the evening were terrible. The negative atmosphere they created was distracting. The food was standard at best. On the set menu choices were limited and a restaurant that has run out of steak was a shock. We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc but was given Chardonnay as they had run out. Drinks at the bar were expensive. Cocktails average price £16.95! Our deluxe room was sparce of soft furnishings no lamps or cushions. Even though our room was ready when arrived we were asked to pay another £20 to gain access before 4pm which I thought was a poor upsell considering the hotel felt pretty empty. I totally understand the challenges of the hospitality industry right now, which is why we try to support by booking little breaks away and eating out when affordable. Service and making your guests feel welcomed and not ripped off, in my opinion, is key.

Having little touched like a bottle of pink champagne in the room and a glass of fizz on New Years day was lovely
Someone was clearly smoking on the 2nd floor and our room stank of smoke as it came under our door. It would have been nice to have someone turn on the tv sound at midnight for the countdown but we couldn't find anyone around to do that

The bar was nice.
We asked for an earlier check in, the staff member on the phone was very friendly and accommodated us. When we got to the hotel the reception staff were rude and said we would have to go into the part of the hotel that had not been refurbished. I was dreadful! Dirty a substance on the dressing table. Smelt damp. Not good. Still at the same cost of the refurbished rooms. We left at 5.30 in the morning, as we could not sleep.
